(Reader’s P.O.V.)

‘Another day, another dollar.’ I thought as I walked home from my part time job.

Summer break has done little to amuse me thus far. Then again it is just the beginning.
Whatever the case I’ve always thought it would prove to be more… happy. Perhaps just not as
tedious as it seems right now.

The moonlight poured down on me until the blinding artificial light of a street lamp took its place
and burned my eyes.

“Maybe more sleep is in order?” I huffed and raked a hand through my (H/L) (H/C) hair and
glanced down to the ground. The street light manipulated my shadow into interesting shapes that
hadn’t meant anything to me.

My one room apartment is approaching with every step I take. The world is so artificial and bland
to me. Almost like gazing through life behind black and white lense, completely colorless. I guess
you could say I’m sort of depressed, not that it should mean anything though. I’m still who I am.

I was pulled out of my thoughts and metaphorically smacked around on reality’s ping pong table
when I heard a twig snap from behind me. I thought this was particularly interesting due to the
lack of trees, but there’s always a first for everything. Despite my drowsy, uninterested facade
my neck shot around to face the location the noise came from.

To my surprise there was someone there. A female, no less. She stood a good twenty to thirty
feet away from myself. Her feminine body curved in such a way I’d only see in dirty magazines. I
was unable to make out the finer details of the shadowy female in front of me.

The only thing I could make out about this woman shrouded in shadows was that she was
holding a knife. A big don’t-come-anywhere-near-me knife. It shined with it’s own lust for blood.

It freaked me out so I just kept walking like nothing even happened.

----

The doors lock clicked as I twisted the key into it, granting me passage to the safety of my studio
apartment and away from the eyes that burned into my soul. I still couldn’t shake the feeling of
someone following me.

Rushing through the door, I locked it quickly as not to let some random and creepy, yet fairly hot
looking woman kill me. I walked briskly over to every openable orfacice in my apartment and
locked them as well. To be perfectly safe I even took out a large bag of salt and poured a fine line
across the window sills and in front of my door.

Knowing I was as safe as I could possibly be, for the moment, I turned to my couch and curled
up in a ball thinking about the creature or woman I’d seen tonight.

‘What if she’s one of those crazy chicks? …. Or my ex girlfriend?’ Thoughts plagued my mind
trying to make sense of the dark figure I’d seen. Of course I knew it wasn’t my ex. The lady stood
there with a pirate’s swagger. Like none I’d ever seen before.

Eventually my sleepy state got the best of me and I just fell into my own dreams, letting go of the
anxiety I’d gotten earlier tonight.

~Time skip ‘till morning~

I was awoken to the vicious noise of a single ringing doorbell. It startled me so much I’d rolled off
my couch and landed face first on the floor, oh so gracefully.

I got up and walked over to the door slowly. I didn’t trust whoever it was on the other side of the
door. I would check the little hole in the center of the door, but my friends had gotten severely
intoxicated and messed it up the last time we hung out. Damn.

“Who’s there?” I yelled loud enough for whomever the mysterious person was to hear it on the
other side.

I was answered by unnerving silence, until a small letter was slid under the door. The piece of
parchment had hit my bare feet and pushed the salt I’d laid before all over the place. I looked
down curiously before reaching down to pick it up.

It read:

----

You’re invited!

You are cordially invited to a beach party tomorrow night. All of your friends will be there. We will
be expecting you.

- Jane

----

My eyes widened at the name of the person who left me the letter. It smelled like perfume and
the lettering was printed beautifully, almost like calligraphy.

‘Is this the person who I saw last night??’ I sighed.

There’s only one way to find out. And with that I got out my bad ass looking sun glasses.
